Hello! Thank you for visiting Kidder Custom Creations. My name is Marcia Kidder. I grew up in a small town near Canton, Ohio. When I was a small child, my mom taught me how to cross-stitch and needlepoint. (With twin infants, she needed something to keep me out of her hair!) During my teen years, my great-grandma Cassie taught me the fine art of sewing handmade quilts – a hobby I continue to enjoy. As you can see, I grew up with a love and appreciation for quality craftsmanship.
My husband, Mike, and I were married in 1973. I am a nurse and Mike is retired from the Air Force. During his 30 year career, we were stationed in New Mexico, North Carolina, South Carolina and Okinawa, Japan. We retired in Tucson, Az. What an exciting and adventurous life we’ve had! We have two grown children and two grandchildren, ages 5 and 3. They bring so much joy, energy and laughter to our lives. Thank goodness they all live close enough that we get to see each other often. I enjoy playing Bunco and am a Red Hat member.
While visiting the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show, I was inspired to start making jewelry. I went with the intention of buying finished products. But I would pick up an item, look at it and think, “I can make this.” I took a Stringing 101 class and made a necklace, bracelet and earrings. I wore the set to work and someone bought it! Then I took a Kumihimo class and had the same results. I continued taking classes including Russian Spiral, Dutch Spiral, Layered Crossweave and many more. The results were always the same – I wore the sets to work and went home without them! Before I could string another bead, Kidder Custom Creations was born and had taken on a life of its own.
I like working with polished gemstones and seed beads. What makes me different from other jewelry makers? Quality! I don’t hesitate to tear a piece apart if I’m not satisfied with the end result. The Netted Goldstone is the most challenging piece I’ve ever made. I completely remade it 3 times before I was happy with the result! It takes about 28 hours to make! I don’t like it when wire or threads are showing. There are some patterns that naturally leave threads showing – I don’t make those patterns!
I hope you enjoy browsing through my creations. When you find patterns you like, contact me and I’ll make them in the colors and sizes you choose. Think how confident you’ll feel when you arrive at work or a special event wearing custom-made jewelry that matches your outfit. Think of all the compliments you’ll receive because you look so chic and stylish. You’ll look like you spent a fortune – only you will know how inexpensive it really was!
When you give handmade jewelry as a gift, you make the recipient feel special. She will know you put a lot of thought into choosing just the right colors and patterns. She’ll think of you and be so pleased every time she wears it. Your gift may become a family heirloom, passed down through the generations.
Please keep me in mind for upcoming birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, gift exchanges, weddings and other special occasions. How about rewarding yourself simply because you deserve it?
